Welcome to the Instructional Television Program
UC Davis ITV classes are broadcast live during the work day to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Typically, full time professional engineers enroll in one course per quarter; thus, a master's degree program takes approximately three years and a doctoral degree program takes approximately five to six years to complete. Some engineers can arrange their schedules to accommodate more course units, completing their degrees in less time.
Embarking on a graduate program in addition to working full-time can be especially challenging. Therefore, obtaining support is the key to your success. Involve your supervisor in your planning, and ask your site coordinator and your graduate adviser for assistance in planning your total and quarterly programs. Although not all graduate classes require the same amount of effort, engineering students have found it prudent to budget approximately 25 hours per week per class. Because this 25 hour-per-week educational commitment is often an addition to a full-time job, spouses and children need to understand and support your commitment to the program.
Other students are an additional source of support. We encourage you to network with other ITV students. Forming study groups can help you work through course assignments, as well as enhance the learning experience. The ITV program staff can assist you in making contact, either by telephone or e-mail, with other ITV students. Another source of support are ITV faculty and administrators. Faculty encourage you to communicate directly with them regarding academic questions related to the courses. To obtain answers to your questions or concerns about the program, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail.
